***News! This just in - ANNOUNCING THE JUDGES PANEL:
Heather Hendry: Heather is a primary school teacher at WCS. She shares her passion for writing through her creative writing club for grades 4-7. She is a member of the Clayoquot Writers Group and writes both fiction and poetry. Her first published poem titled "Handmade Binoculars" was chosen as one of the winners for the Vancouver Island Regional Library Poem in Your Pocket contest. Heather wanted to join the judging team because she is passionate about celebrating literary arts in our community.
April Robson: As the daughter of a writer, April grew up in a household where reading and writing were a daily practice. Throughout her life her own writing has been both a tool for self discovery and a way to connect to herself. Her love of reading provides an endless way to explore and learn.
Andrea McQuade: Andrea is a voracious consumer of the written word, and prefers to snack on similes and metaphors above all. She cut her writing teeth on a meaty philosophy degree and binged her way through music and fashion columns for weekly independents. She’s settled on a balanced diet of Instagram posts and letters to the editor with the occasional indulgence of a tweet or two.
Janis Lore: Janice Lore is a local writer and member of the Clayoquot Writers Group. She has written poetry, stories and plays for as long as she can remember, and says it is how she makes sense of the world. She loves to read and enjoys encounters with other writers and their work.
Andre Mcgillvray: Is famous for his "Dear Abby" style column which frequently appears on the Tofino Bulletin Board - a local's favourite for sure about forgotten beach treasures.
Judges will be evaluating the stories using a list of criteria and using a point system from 1-10 to vote on first, second, and third place. If we are lucky we may even get an old fashioned CBC style debate on air but no confirmation on that yet! The judging will start this Tuesday with the results in on April 15th. READERS we need your votes. Please read these stories and send us your FAVOURITE one. You can tell us why you chose it and any accolades will be passed onto the author. So please, take the time, read the stories and email us or text us your favourite. 250 726 6011. You can vote once.
